How many types of filters does KFI offer?
KFI currently offers 2 different filter lines. The Green Line is a carbon filter using light weight, granulated carbon made from renewable resources and the Standard Line which uses a coal based pelletized carbon. All filters come with a Pre-filter installed.
Does the filter come with a flange installed?
The Green Line filters come with a pre-installed flange. The Standard Line does not have a flange attached allowing you to pick the appropriate size for your ventilation equipment. Upon customer request, we are able to install a different flange size on the Green Line filters to suit your requirements.
Why are you not using aluminum top and bottom pieces?
For us, the most important factor is filter performance. The weight of an aluminum top and bottom compared to steel parts is negligible. We also eliminated the foam ring in the carbon bed which, in certain conditions, can affect the filters performance.
How do I install a flange?
All KFI flanges come with a seal kit. Apply the self-adhesive gasket tape around the circumference of the bottom of the flange, center the flange on the filter and use the tek screws and fasten it to the filter (use 4 tek screws for the 4” flange, and 6 tek screws for all other flanges). Be sure not to over torque the screws.
What is the maximum suggested temperature rating on the filters?
KFI recommends a maximum ambient temperature of 80˚C / 175˚ Fahrenheit.
Does humidity effect the lifetime of my filter?
Yes, humidity above 70% will have a negative impact on the service life of your filter. If the carbon becomes moist, it will reduce the lifetime and efficiency of your filter.
How long will my KFI Filter last?
The lifetime of a carbon filter is influenced by multiple factors; temperature, relative humidity and air contaminants all play a part in the life expectancy of a filter. Changing the prefilter regularly can help extend the lifetime of your fan and filter by keeping contaminants out of the carbon bed, allowing air to flow through the carbon without additional restriction. With these factors considered, you can expect a minimum of 18 months from a Green Line filter and up to 2 years for the Standard Line filter.
Which fan should I use with my filter?
We recommend using Ruck brand fans with our products; however any brand of fan designed for the application will work. Each of our filters has a CFM rating on the packaging which will match one or more fans depending on the application.
How do I size the proper filter / fan for my room?
You can use the CFM calculator on our website, but the basic calculation is: length x width x height, this will give the cubic feet of your area. Now decide how often you want to exchange the air in the room (a common exchange rate is 1-3 minutes per exchange). Divide the calculated cubic feet with the number of desired exchanges per minute; this will be the minimum cfm rating for your room. The fan and filter then can be chosen from our charts.
